Founded in 1973, Boss has established itself as one of the most popular manufacturers of effects pedals for electric and bass guitars. A division of Roland Corporation, known for musical equipment, keyboards and accessories, Boss has expanded its line over the years to include electronic tuners, pedal boards, multi-effects processors, digital studios, rhythm machines and solid state amplifiers.
A mainstay on stages around the world, Boss has been at the forefront of effects processing in a compact pedal-board friendly format. While many early pedals, including the DS-1 Distortion, CE-1 Chorus, OD-1 Overdrive and GE-7 Graphic Equalizer are still around today in upgraded formats with improved circuitry and function, the basic external design has remained virtually unchanged for almost 50 years. In 2014, Boss released the popular Waza-Craft line of premium pedals. Made in Japan, these stompboxes feature reissues of highly sought-after vintage Boss effects. Boss continued to expand with the release of the Katana series of modelling amplifiers. Ideal for guitar and bass, Katana amps deliver versatile amp voicings, an expansive range of built-in effects and exceptional sound with the Boss Tube Logic design.
Appealing to a wide range of music styles, the DS-1 Distortion, MT-2 Metal Zone, SD-1 Super Overdrive, BD-2 Blues Driver and DD-3 Digital Delay are still among the best-selling pedals in the world. More recently, the VE-2 Vocal Harmonizer, RC-5 Loop Station and GT-1000 Guitar Processor continue to gain legions of fans.
